A 50-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times and then tried to kill himself by hanging from a ceiling fan at their home on Monday evening. The incident was reported from east Delhi’s Gharoli area near Ghazipur.

The duo, identified as Ram Gopal Sharma and his wife Manju, were rushed to a nearby hospital by their neighbours. Their condition of both was stated to be critical. The exact reason behind the crime could not be ascertained till Tuesday, as the couple was unfit for recording their statement.

Neighbours have told police that the couple was having an argument before Sharma attacked his wife and then attempted suicide.

A senior police officer said Sharma has a dairy business. His three children are into e-commerce. On Monday evening, the couple was at the house and their children were away. The couple allegedly got into an argument over some issue which soon escalated.

A few minutes later, neighbours heard the screams of Manju and rushed to investigate. A woman who lived in the same building on the upper floor was the first to reach the spot and found Manju in a pool of blood. She also found Sharma hanging from a ceiling fan. She raised an alarm and other neighbours immediately reached the spot.

The police was informed and the couple was taken to a nearby hospital. A case was registered and the police recorded the statements of other family members and neighbours.
