A 60-year-old man was arrested on the charge of brutally killing his wife, stabbing her in the neck seven times and twice in the eye, in south Delhi’s Anand Niketan area on Wednesday afternoon.

Mukesh Monga, who earned Rs 5,000 a month from a music institute where he worked, reportedly drove wife Manju to her office in Anand Niketan around noon. The two were in a car outside her office when they had an argument, following which Mukesh thrashed her. He then pulled out a knife and stabbed Manju.

The guard outside the office saw the incident and rushed to her rescue.

“But before guard Rajkumar could intervene, Mukesh stabbed her repeatedly. As Rajkumar shouted for help, Mukesh tried to drive away,” an officer said.

A police car intercepted Mukesh’s vehicle and caught him. He was said to be drunk.

The 58-year-old Manju was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The couple’s children — a 32-year-old daughter and son, who is 22 — said their father had behavioural issues. He often beat up his wife, who earned more than him and took care of the family’s expenses.
