He wanted was to make his parents realise his importance in their lives and to make that happen, he plotted his own abduction drama and demanded a ransom of R3 crore from his father despite belonging to a lower middle-class family.
Thirteen days after he went missing in mysterious circumstances and his father receiving an SMS on his mobile for a ransom of R3 crore, the outer district police on Friday found the 19-year-old youth who had staged his own abduction.
A Class 12 student of Maharaja Agrasen Public School, Saurabh Mandal was traced from near Old Delhi Railway station by a team of the Narela police station and his father Ranjeet Mandal, a registered medical practitioner (RMP), said police.
“Saurabh went missing on December 21 and his family members did not lodge a missing complaint till December 23, the day when his father received an SMS on his phone demanding R3 crore for his son's safe release. His father lodged a complaint and suspected his son was abducted by unknown persons," said BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer).
Jaiswal said the call details of victim's mobile phones were obtained and examined. The location of these phones was also obtained, which was found at Burdwan in West Bengal. It was also learnt that the permanent address of the complainant was also at Vardhman.
“A team along with the victim’s father was sent to Burdwan but he could not be traced. Subsequent raids were conducted at railway stations in Delhi and during one such raid, Saurabh was found loitering around Old Delhi Railway Station," said Jaiswal.
During questioning, an investigating officer said, Saurabh admitted that he had left his house on his own wish and that he himself had plotted the abduction drama and later sent the ransom SMS to his father.
But when he realised that he was doing wrong and unnecessarily giving trouble to his parents, Saurabh boarded a train for Delhi from Vardhman where he was hiding. He was traced before he could reach home. He stayed in various hotels in Vardhman.
"Investigations revealed that Saurabh, who was weak in his studies, was also unhappy from his parents for not getting money for expenses. He got frustrated and hatched the plot to kidnapping," said the officer adding they will produce Saurabh before a Delhi court and seek legal action against him.
