To fulfill his wife's dream of becoming an IAS officer, Amit, a science graduate from Rohtak University, decided to rob two petrol pump owners. The outer district police arrested the 24-year-old along with seven others on Thursday. They had allegedly robbed Rs.14 lakh on April 7.
"Amit, alias Mittu, disclosed that he needed money to fund the coaching of his wife, an IAS aspirant. To fulfill her dream, he decided to rob petrol pump employees," BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer) said. Sources said Amit needed Rs. 1 lakh to pay a coaching institute in Mukherjee Nagar.
Amit got married three years ago. His wife had told him that she wanted to become an IAS officer. "He belongs to a middle-class family and is jobless. Despite trying hard, he could not arrange money. So, he joined his friends, who were planning to rob a petrol pump owner," a senior police officer said.
Amit did not tell his wife about the plan, but said he had arranged the money for her coaching. It was when he was arrested his family got to know about his involvement in the robbery.
The other accused have disclosed that they wanted to spend the looted amount in gambling in IPL matches. "They disclosed that they looted the money to visit Mumbai and Goa," Jaiswal added.
On April 7, two employees of Jai Shri Ganesh Petrol Pump in Alipur were going to deposit Rs. 13.97 lakh in Corporation Bank when they were robbed. Ravi Kumar, Shish Ram, Mohit, Dinu Ram and Mukesh were arrested first and Rs. 6.40 lakh and one motorcycle was recovered from them. They told the police that three more persons were involved in the crime - Amit, Lalit and Sumer. There were apprehended from Sonepat. The police recovered Rs. 2.9 lakh and two motorcycles from them.
