Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a man who was allegedly trying to sell an ivory necklace to BJP leader and wildlife activist Maneka Gandhi, which he had procured illegally.

The police said that the accused was arrested four days back and he was unaware of Gandhi's identity.

The police said the accused got her number from someone who told him that Gandhi was a businesswoman who dealt in sale and purchase of animal skins and body parts. The accused believed that she would give a good amount for them as well.

"He called her and said that he wanted to sell an ivory necklace. She decided to pose as a decoy customer and called him to her house. The deal was struck at Rs8.5 lakhs and she informed us. When he came, we arrested him," said a senior police officer.

The accused, identified as Raj Harmohinder Singh, is a resident of Rohini. Police said he had procured the ivory necklace from a person in Chandni Chowk area. Police is now looking for the person who gave him the ivory-necklace.
