Pressed by the information and broadcasting ministry to declare the order of preference for selection to the posts of director generals of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan, eight out of nine Prasar Bharati members have suggested LD Mandloi’s name as their first preference for the AIR DG post, while five members have suggested Tripurari Sharan’s name for the Doordarshan DG’s post.

The Prasar Bharati board members, initially reluctant to put up the names in any particular order of preference, were made to comply with the I&B ministry’s suggestion.

A letter, dated March 23, issued by Arvind Kumar, joint secretary (broadcasting), I&B ministry, says: “As the ministry subsequently desired the names in the panels be put in order of preference, the members were requested to convey their preferences by circulation.”

Mandloi is the acting DG, Doordarshan, while Sharan is a Bihar cadre 1985 batch IAS officer. DG AIR Naureen Naqvi is set to retire on March 31.

The other contender for the AIR DG post is G Jayalal.
