Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the National Council on India's Nutritional Challenges in the Capital, the first such deliberation of the panel after it was constituted two years ago.
The meeting was attended by women and child development minister Krishna Tirath and senior officials of her ministry and Health ministry.
Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad could not attend the meeting as he was in Hyderabad.
The Prime Minister-headed council was formed in October 2008 and this was the first meeting it had.
The Council is formed to give a direction to overcome the country's nutritional challenges through coordinated inter-sectoral action.
It was also empowered to review nutrition programmes every quarter.
