Many avoid Day 1 rush for DU forms

The Delhi University admission process got underway on Monday with thousands of students flocking to the 15 information centres across the city to buy common pre-admission forms.
At the end of Day 1, authorities said they had sold around 30,000 forms, a massive figure — yet more than 2,500 forms less than last year’s sale on the first day.
The reason could be the heavy first-day rush. "Students have realised that they have enough time and need not rush to collect forms on Day 1," said SK Vij, Dean Students Welfare (DSW). "We have been repeatedly telling applicants that there are enough forms for every one and forms will be available till June 16."
For students applying under OBC category, there was confusion on the creamy and non-creamy layers. "The information bulletin does not mention anywhere what constitutes creamy and non-creamy layers," said Shruti Singh, from Lucknow.
Some colleges were also asking for income certificate to be attached with the individual admission form. "SRCC wants an income certificate and we don’t have one with us right now," said her grandfather MR Prasad.
Meanwhile, to encourage physically challenged students to enroll, DU will be bringing information in Braille on Tuesday, a first of its kind effort. "Almost 50 per cent of our challenged students are visually impaired. Students also want to read the information themselves before deciding their choices," said Seema M Parihar, Deputy DSW.
