Many choose to look beyond DU, go looking for seats abroad

The number of Delhi University application forms sold in the first four days of admission season may have crossed 100,000, but there are many who are not looking at the varsity as an option.
In fact, students are now working towards credits and co-curricular activities in school so that they stand a better chance of being considered for scholarship programmes abroad.
Sankriti School’s topper in commerce, Aradhana Gupta, has scored an aggregate of 98%. She can easily secure admission in any Indian university but has decided to study abroad. She has already secured admission in two well-known universities in the UK.
Better infrastructure and international exposure seem to be motivating students who want to study abroad.
“I feel that colleges abroad provide a more holistic experience of learning and provide much more opportunities for students than DU does” said Isha Gupta, a Class 11 student of Vasant Valley School, who hopes to get admission in a foreign university next year.
But a lot of students are also looking at universities in India as they feel they will not get either a college or course of their choice in DU.
Naman Dhayani, a student of Ramjas School, has scored 74.4% in science. He is aware that with his percentage he will not get admission in a college of his choice in DU.
So he is planning to move to Chennai or Dehradun to pursue an engineering degree. With an aggregate of 80% and having international level certificates for ECA quota, Shubhangana Vishwanathan from Dwarka is also planning to apply to Mumbai University to keep her options open.
The Bachelors in Management Studies (BMS) course offered by Mumbai University is also a popular choice. On the other hand, students with low scores are hopeful to make it to Indraprastha University or Jamia Milia Islamia through the entrance exams.
