Alleging that the UPA government has failed to clarify the clauses attached to the Indo-US nuclear deal, BSP chief Mayawati on Saturday wrote to President Pratibha Patil, requesting her to direct the government to convene Parliament at the earliest to discuss the issue.
"In the light of the revelations made by US media about the nuclear deal, the steps taken by the UPA government and the statements made by it on the matter, are not clear. Due to contradictions arising out of the issue, the public as well as political parties are angry," the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said in the letter.
She added that the Congress was worried by the revelations and therefore was hesitating to convene the Monsoon Session of Parliament. "For the first time in the country, the Monsoon Session is being held in October-November while the Winter Session may not be convened at all. My party criticises this step," Mayawati said in the letter, requesting the President to "immediately ask the UPA government to convene Parliament or sack it if it fails to do so".
