MCD confirms first dengue death

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday confirmed the first dengue death in the capital this year after the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) sent its report.
On Monday, army garrison engineer Vikas Kumar Yadav had died of high-grade fever at the Research and Referral Army Hospital near Dhaula Kuan.
While sources in the hospital had said it was a dengue death, the administration and the municipal corporation had refused to confirm the news till the NICD report came in.
The civic agency on Thursday reported 17 fresh cases of dengue.
The total number of dengue positive patients has now touched 109 this season. The number is expected to rise in coming months.
In Gurgaon, the situation continues to get worse with 26 new cases being reported in the past 24 hours.
The total number of cases now stands at 374.
Thirty-three dengue patients are under treatment in various hospitals across the city. The results of 68 tested samples are also awaited.
