The building that collapsed in east Delhi's Lalita Park on Monday was never booked for any illegal construction.

Interestingly, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi took little or no action against buildings booked as unsafe.

The Walled city and its surrounding areas are crammed with 'dangerous' buildings which may collapse anytime.

The survey to identify dangerous building which takes place every year before monsoon was also not undertaken by the MCD this year.

According to an MCD official, 42 buildings were declared 'dangerous' in 2008. But two years later nothing has been done to fix them.

According to MCD officials there are 200 buildings that require immediate repair work in city zone and 70 in Sadar Paharganj zone.

On Thursday, the MCD commissioner KS Mehra said there are several dangerous buildings in Old Delhi.

"We carried out a survey and are currently working towards checking the structures," Mehra said.
