The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) demolition drive continues. After acting against illegal constructions in residential colonies, the civic agency’s demolition squad on Monday demolished illegally constructed portions in nine properties, including those in DDA Janata flats in south-east Delhi.
According to the MCD, the demolitions took place in the presence of the local police in Sarita Vihar, Tughlakabad Extension, and Govindpuri. This is the second time within a week that the civic body has targeted illegal constructions in Sarita Vihar’s DDA flats.
“MCD’s policy for DDA flat owners, who want to carry out any additional construction or alterations, requires them to obtain its permission as per the guidelines. The owners of the demolished properties had carried out unauthorised constructions, in violation of the policy,” said a senior MCD official.
The civic agency will continue with its demolition drive throughout this week.
In addition, the MCD said that in the coming few days, it will be taking action against DDA flats in colonies like Vasant Kunj, Vasant Vihar, Dwarka, Munirka and Shalimar Bagh among others.
“Those who want to carry out any kind of construction can contact our zonal offices and apply for regularisation to ensure their flats do not become targets of our drive,” the official added.
In the past one week, the civic body has taken action against 15 flats. It said that there are close to 10,000 DDA flats in Sarita Vihar alone wherein illegal constructions have been carried out to create more space.
