The MCD on Thursday extended the date of admission under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota in schools recognised by it.
According to the civic agency, the decision to extend the admission date from February 15 was taken to facilitate parents, many of who have been facing problems in arranging documents required to avail admission under the quota.
“Students belonging to EWS can take admission forms of both MCD and MCD-recognised schools till May 10,” said Mahender Nagpal, chairman of the MCD’s education committee.
According to a Delhi government notification, only those children can belong to the EWS whose parents have a total annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh from all sources and who have been staying in Delhi for the last three years.
The Delhi government on February 2 had asked the MCD to implement the EWS admission process in its true spirit as made mandatory by the Right to Education Act. The MCD will furnish a list of violating schools so that action against them could be initiated.
The MCD had then said that notices were being issued to MCD-recognised 773 primary schools, asking them to furnish the details of the steps taken by them to implement the 25 per cent EWS quota.
Nagpal has repeatedly said that action will be taken against the schools which do not implement the EWS quota.
