MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra and DDA vice chairman A.K. Nigam were directed by the Delhi High Court to be “personally present” before it and explain why they haven't taken any steps to remove illegal encroachments on two roads outside four housing societies in Paschim Vihar. The order was passed 14 months back on February 11, 2009.
“Please do not take the courts for granted,” was the High Court's clear message to the two agencies on Wednesday. The additional commissioner of the MCD's Slum and Jhuggi Jhopdi Wing also has to appear before the court on May 12.
“Why didn't you file a contempt case against these civic authorities?” a Bench of Acting Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta asked lawyer Raj Panjwani, who appeared for the DDA.
