Continuing with its drive against unauthorised constructions, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has started lodging FIRs against errant builders.

“As directed by the Special Task Force (STF) constituted recently under the orders of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, we have started lodging FIRs against property owners and builder mafia. We have lodged five FIRs with the concerned police stations so that those people could be arrested soon,” said a senior official of the building department of Civil Lines zone, MCD. Meanwhile, civic officials demolished 17 illegal properties. The demolition was carried out by the building department of the Civil Lines zone and West zone.

Action was taken against 13 properties in west zone and four properties in Civil Lines zone. Besides, one property was also sealed in West zone.

Areas where action was taken include Janakpuri, Hari Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Mansarovar Garden, Old Mahavir Nagar, Azadpur Village, Samaypur Badli, and Subzi Mandi. In the past one week, demolition action was taken against 24 properties. As many as 87 illegal structures were razed in the past one month by the civic body.

“Now that we have started lodging FIRs, it will also stop builders from constructing unauthorised flats or floor and selling the same to the people fraudulently. We want that before buying any property in MCD’s area, people should confirm with us whether the property is legal or illegal,” added the official.
