The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to earmark R2.5 crore towards children studying in nursery classes so that they can buy uniforms.

The education committee has decided to implement it from next year, after their admission season starts from April as it will encourage more children to take admission in MCD schools. The civic agency has 47,000 nursery students in its schools who, so far, do not receive any monetary benefits.

Currently, monetary benefit is given only to primary students who are also given R500 to buy uniforms.

An official of MCD said that money is given to buy a jersey, a pair of shoes, socks and a jersey. “While the money may not be adequate to buy all four things, it will definitely ease the burden on parents,” said Mahendra Nagpal, chairman of Education Committee of MCD.
