To ensure that economic slowdown which has already hit several infrastructure projects globally does not have an adverse impact on the civic agency’s parking projects, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has raised the financial bar of its parking tenders. The civic body wants only financially sound companies to participate.
“Recently I met MCD officials and suggested that keeping in view the slowdown, financial qualification of companies should be considered important. This will ensure that global players/ big infrastructure companies participate in the tender process and projects are not delayed for want of money. Also, it will ensure that projects are completed on time,” said Mayor Arti Mehra.
The civic agency would be calling tenders for 15 multi-level parking projects within a week’s time. These tenders were which earlier cancelled on technical grounds. It has also relaxed some norms for the process to make sure companies with greater turnovers are selected.
“Earlier, experience in the field of constructing parking projects was one of the eligibility criteria but now we have made certain changes under which bigger infrastructure companies can also apply,” said a senior MCD official.
This is not all. The MCD is also trying to get bigger infrastructure firms for constructing 24 underground parking projects.
Earlier the standing committee of the MCD had cancelled tenders of multi-level projects on technical grounds. The projects are supposed to be completed before Commonwealth Games 2010.
The multi-level parking projects would be coming up at Greater Kailash I, South Extension market, Defence Colony, Shastri Park among other areas.
