MCD to allot flats to sanitation workers

To mark Ambedkar Jayanti, the MCD on Wednesday started the process of allotting affordable houses to sanitation workers under the Dr Ambedkar Housing Scheme.
Chairman of MCD’s Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia said the civic agency will be allotting 254 houses in the current phase. The total number of houses will be 20,000. These houses will be priced much below market rates. “Selection of house owners will be done through lottery,” said Chandolia.
Of the total 254 houses, 5% or 13 will be made available to the workers’ widows, 5% will given on the basis of medical certificates. And 15% will be sold to employees due to retire in three years. “The rest 75 % i.e. 189 have been set aside for the general category,” he said.
The current lot of houses for the safai karmacharis are located in C-Block, Nandnagari. Each house measures 30.35 square metres. Each will cost Rs 7.5 lakh.
In Rohini, 16 houses have been made available at a cost of Rs 7.75 lakh each. In Nandnagari-Sundernagari, 30 houses are being provided at a cost of Rs 7.05 lakh each. Also, 15 houses will be made available at a cost of Rs 6.3 lakh each in Jahangirpuri.
Those interested can contact sanitary inspectors of their respective zones from Friday. The last date for submission of forms is May 13.
