MCD to resume sealing drive after diwali

Rapped on the knuckles for not doing enough against illegal construction, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s sealing and demolition squad will be back in full swing with a list of 40,000 properties after Diwali.

Senior MCD officials said the decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee on Tuesday. They said properties in residential areas, especially those constructed on government land, and guest-houses that violate the permissible height of 15 meters would be targeted first.

The MCD will target areas in south Delhi such as Kishan Garh near Vasant Kunj, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Kalkaji and Karol Bagh. “All zones have been informed about the action,” said Bhure Lal, member of the monitoring committee.
