A recent survey by the MCD to check water contamination in the city revealed that 18% of water supplied by the DJB is contaminated.
Keeping this survey result in mind, the MCD’s health committee, which had commissioned the research, has written to all its councillors to supply it with the details of complaints made by people in this regard.
The details the councillors need to furnish will be on four accounts—the areas that see maximum complaints, that have leakages in DJB water pipes, the number of people complaining about erratic water supply everyday and the areas where sewer water gets mixed with the water supply.
The survey by the civic agency had shown that every fifth
person in Delhi is consuming contaminated water.
VK Monga, the chairman of the health committee, said, “The DJB pipelines are old. By taking up the issue, we can urge them to make the necessary changes.”
The worst affected areas were the south and Karol Bagh zones.
The survey was ordered after the civic agency received several complaints of cholera and other gastro-related problems in December 2010.
