Don’t levy VAT and service tax simultaneously on copyright, include entertainment tax in GST and exempt from customs duty some categories of radio station equipment: that’s what a media and entertainment delegation told finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday.

Information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni led a delegation from the industry including filmmakers Ramesh Sippy and Yash Chopra as well as heads of entertainment channels and industry groups to meet her cabinet colleague early on Friday.

The delegation asked Mukherjee to include alternate revenue streams like music rights, satellite rights and home video rights with theatrical distribution/exhibition rights in the Income Tax Act. The delegation also asked for customs duty exemption on radio equipment used for stations in small towns.
