Some unidentified men allegedly thrashed a medical student from the northeast in Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi on Thursday following an altercation.
Police said the fight started around 8:30 p.m. when one of the accused men threw a chicken dumpling, commonly known as momo, on the victim’s face.
The police said the fight started when one of the boys made some remarks about the victim, who had come to visit his friend. Thung is a resident of Gautam Nagar.
“Thung and his friend went out to have some momos at a kiosk in the area. While they were eating, a few boys who were already present at the momo stall started passing snide remarks at Thung and his friend. Then suddenly one of them threw a momo at the victim,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

After Thung and his friend had momos, they left the spot in an auto-rickshaw. In his statement to the police, Thung said after that the accused and his four friends followed them and stopped their auto-rickshaw and allegedly pulled him (Thung) out.
“He said the men, all in the age group of 22-25 years, then started beating him with sticks and bricks. One of the men also hit him on the nose with a brick after which the victim started bleeding,” added the officer.
The unidentified men then fled from the spot. Thung then called the police and he was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for first aid.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal said, “We have registered a case and are looking into the matter.”
The police have dismissed the possibility that it could be a racial attack.
