The special investigative team probing the Mercedes hit-and-run case found that the teenager accused in the case was driving the vehicle on all four instances in the past eight months when the car was fined for traffic violations .
Investigating officers said they seized evidence in two cases to show that the teenager was speeding — a challan copy of March 3 with the name of the teen, caught on Rajpura Road for speeding; the statement of a man who was involved in an accident with the teen on February 16. The man, police said, identified the teenager as speeding causing the accident on the day.
The team asked the traffic police for a certified copy of the challan in the four cases as well as the car’s challan history of the last two years.
They are also verifying the documents submitted by the teenager at his school to check his actual age. His father on Tuesday claimed his son was a minor, following which he was granted bail.
New CCTV footage released
Victim Siddharth Sharma’s family and friends released fresh footage of the night of the accident, showing five teens running from the spot. Some of them are seen making phone calls.
Earlier, the family released a footage from the night that went viral on social media. The family spoke to residents and shopkeepers and managed to get a copy of the video as police allegedly refused to show it to them.

Police sources said they would use the CCTV to strengthen their case during trial.
Sharma’s friends started an online petition seeking justice and demanding that the juvenile be tried as an adult. The petition started on Thursday received over 11,000 signatures till Sunday evening.
