While the winter is on its way out now, fog is back to trouble fliers at the Delhi airport.

Indira Gandhi International Airport witnessed moderate fog on Tuesday, which affected normal flight operations. The met department, however, is expecting dense fog to make a comeback on Wednesday.

"There are chances of dense fog returning on Wednesday and Thursday," said RK Jenamani, Director-in-Charge, IGIA met unit.

"The humidity level in the atmosphere has gone up to 78% and there is no wind movement to blow away fog. Though there was only isolated cases of dense fog for some time on Tuesday, the situation might get worse on Wednesday," he said.

This winter has been good for fliers with record low hours of dense fog in December and January, the peak time for fog formation at the airport. The met department hadn't anticipated much fog in February and seems to have been taken by surprise.

Low visibility procedures (LVP) were implemented at the airport at 3am on Tuesday with visibility going down. LVP was lifted only at 10.42am after visibility improved. There were 186 flight movements during the seven hour and 34 minutes long fog period using the Category I Instrument Landing System, which guides pilots to land in poor visibility.
Though there were some flight delays, there were no cancellations or flight diversions due to fog.

Flights to US might get affected
Flights to the United States (US) might get affected due snowstorms in that area. Air India has already rescheduled its flights between February 1 and 2 in view of the adverse weather conditions predicted over the US.

The Mumbai-Delhi-New York (JFK) flight AI 101 of February 1 has been rescheduled to leave Mumbai at 2.40am on February 2 and reach Delhi at 5am. The flight will leave Delhi at 6.45am and reach New York at 11.45am (local time).
