Ahead of Commonwealth Games, Delhi Metro will install more escalators at two of its most busy stations -- Rajiv Chowk and Chandni Chowk.
The decision came after Delhi Metro Managing Director E Sreedharan inspected Rajiv Chowk (footfall of over 3.75 lakh) and Chandni Chowk (footfall of over one lakh) stations. At Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Sreedharan reviewed the progress of installation of four additional escalators. While two of them were made operational today, the other two are also likely to be commissioned within the next 10 days.
At Chandni Chowk Metro station, he asked officials to provide separate entry and exit gates to smoothen the flow of passengers into the station. This station also acts as an integrating point for the Old Delhi Railway Station of Indian Railways. He also asked officials to set up 14 additional ticket counters to be put near gate No 1 where passengers will be coming for entry.
On the same side, it was decided to add two new escalators for passenger convenience to reach from ground to concourse level.
He also inspected the Chawri Bazar Metro Station and ordered for a high capacity lift to be put on Hauz Qazi side of the station for the convenience of the passengers. He directed the officials to execute and implement the new arrangement before the Commonwealth Games.
