The Rajasthan police on Monday arrested a home ministry employee on charges of passing on secret information and sharing sensitive documents with alleged Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agent Sumar Khan, 35.

Sources said the employee Surender Kumar was posted with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office which comes under the Intelligence Bureau. A red-faced home ministry clamped up and refused to comment on the arrest.

But sources indicated Surender Kumar was in a FRRO unit that coordinates with the home ministry. He was attached with the diary and dispatch section. Additional director general of police, intelligence, Dalpat Singh Dinkar told HT that a team was questioning Kumar after his name figured in the case on the basis of the call data records. He lives in Rohini area of the national capital.

“We arrested him on Monday after finding specific information about his involvement in passing on secret information to Khan. Kumar provided photo copies of sensitive documents to Khan who further passed on information to his handlers in Pakistan” Dinkar said.

The CID had arrested Khan on February 25 on charges of spying on Indian Air Force’s firepower show ‘Iron Fist’ held at Pokhran in Jaisalmer district on February 22. The show was attended by President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and defence minister AK Antony.
