A 50-year-old milk distributor was shot dead by unidentified assailants in outer Rohini on Friday morning.

“The incident occurred at Avantika's Sector 3 at 11.30 a.m. The victim has been identified as Harish Chand Gulati, a resident of sector 5,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

Police said Gulati was en route a local bank to deposit his daily cash collection along with his driver when unidentified men shot him while he was in his Maruti van.

"Gulati was lying face down in his van and his head was bleeding profusely when we reached the scene. The residents of the residential area nearby said they had not heard any gunshot. It appears that Gulati was shot and then dragged into the vehicle," the officer said.

Gulati worked as a distributor for Mother Dairy and the local Priya Dairy.

"The incident took place when Gulati was waiting for his driver who had stopped the car in the service lane and gone to fetch some water. As Gulati waited, the assailants came and shot him," the officer said.

Police said Gulati was rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced brought dead on arrival.

"We also recovered cash to the tune of Rs 86,700 from Gulati's person at the hospital. Personal Enmity could be the reason behind the crime," the officer said.

Police said a case had been registered and they were questioning Gulati's driver.
