A 40-year-old widower was arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter over the last two years in north Delhi's Sarai Rohilla area.
"The incident was brought to the notice of the local police by the victim's sister-in-law on Wednesday evening. The accused, who is the girl's father, works as a security guard," said a senior police officer.
According to police, the victim, who had been terrorized into keeping mum about the prolonged sexual abuse, escaped from her house when her father had gone to a friend's house.
"The victim escaped to her older brother's house where she narrated the incident to her sister-in-law, who in turn took her to the Sarai Rohilla police station and a formal complaint was lodged," the officer said.
Police said according to the victim's written complaint, her father had been sexually assaulting for the last two years. Her mother passed away in 2002 and the father had threatened to kill her and her siblings if they attempted to tell anyone about the abuse.
"After the complaint was filed, the victim was immediately taken for a medical examination to a nearby hospital where sexual assault was confirmed. A manhunt was then launched and the accused was arrested," said the officer.
Police said the accused has three daughters and two sons.
"One of his sons is married and it was his wife who informed us about the incident. He had abandoned his father soon after marriage owing to his misdeeds and lives at a west Delhi locality. The family hails from Nepal," the officer added.
