Delhi Assembly speaker Yoganand Shastri has asked police commissioner BK Gupta to be present in the House on Tuesday when members discuss the law and order situation in the Capital in view of the attack on MLA Bharat Singh.

“Police protection should be provided to those who need it. We will discuss the law and order situation in the House on Tuesday,” said chief minster Sheila Dikshit.

Dikshit had met the police commissioner on Saturday and asked him to review security arrangements of MLAs.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Karan Singh Tanwar, who was present in the Assembly on Monday, claimed speaker Shastri had violated the code of conduct by attending the meeting with Dikshit and Gupta at the CM’s residence.

“It is a violation of the code of conduct. When the Assembly session is on, the speaker should not have gone to the residence of the chief minister,” said Tanwar, who was removed from the House.

Later, Tanwar sat outside chief minister’s office to protest.

Accused in police remand
A city court sent the four men arrested for attacking Bharat Singh to police remand for six days.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav said, “Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the investigating officer has been able to make out a good case for grant of police custody of all four accused persons for six days.”

The accused — charged with attempt to murder and under the Arms Act — will be in police custody till June 10.

The special cell of Delhi Police told the court that the accused had made a “disclosure statement” about the incident and their custody was needed to “unearth the motive behind the conspiracy leading to the gruesome shootout”.
