A 55-year-old senior consultant with a multinational company (MNC) in Noida was abducted in a car and then robbed of his wallet, gold rings, and money by a gang of three robbers in south Delhi on Wednesday morning.

The robbers made the MNC employee sit inside the car after offering him a ride to his office in Noida.

They drove around on the roads for several minutes before assaulting and robbing the man and dropping him at a secluded place somewhere in Greater Noida. During the entire journey, the robbers had kept him blindfolded.

The man, Sumit Chakraborty, told police that he somehow managed to reach Delhi in two vehicles and admitted himself in a private hospital in Saket.

A transaction of R40,000 was also made from his account using the ATM card that was taken away by the robbers along with his wallet. They had made him share his ATM’s password, said police.

According to Chakraborty’s complaint, he had called the police control room from the hospital and informed the police about the entire crime. A team from the Saket police station responded to the call but refused to take any action saying the crime did not occur in their territorial jurisdiction.

They told him to contact the Defence Colony police for lodging an FIR and probing the case. But when he was taken to the police station concerned, the response of the police officers was not co-operative and no immediate action was taken on his complaint, said Chakraborty. The FIR pertaining to the crime was registered on Thursday, only after Chakraborty brought the matter into the notice of the media, he said.

According to Chakraborty, he was waiting for his bus to Noida around 7 am at Andrews Ganj bus stop when two men approached him and asked for a way towards Anand Vihar. While he was conversation was on, another man arrived and asked Chakraborty the way to reach Noida Sector 12-22.

While Chakraborty was telling him the route, the man asked him about his destination and offered him a drop to his office in Noida. The victim first refused but after much persistence from the third person he sat inside the car. The two persons (who had first asked about Anand Vihar) asked for a lift till Maharani Bagh.

On their way, one of them pretended of vomiting tendency and went outside the car. When he came back he made Chakraborty sit in between him and the other man. Soon, the two overpowered Chakraborty and blindfolded him. They robbed him and later dropped him at a secluded place in Greater Noida.
