Monsoon rains lashed the national capital for the sixth consecutive day on Monday with the mercury settling at a comfortable 31.6 degrees Celsius.

The city received 1.7 mm of rainfall since morning while as much as 8.30-recorded 12.5 mm of rainfall is this morning.

The maximum temperature was two degrees below normal, while the minimum was 25.0 degrees Celsius, less than normal by a degree.

Humidity remained at a high level oscillating between 97 per cent and 76 per cent.

The city has received rains continuously since August 12 with the weathermen forecasting a partly clouded sky with possibility of rain and thunderstorm.

The rains have brought down temperatures considerably in the past few days with the maximum keeping way below the 35-degree mark in the last few days.

The maximum temperature is likely to be around 32.0 degree Celsius on Tuesday while the minimum is likely to stay at around 25.0 degrees, the Met Department said.

Rains eluded a major chunk of north India for most part of the season this year despite initial forecasts of a normal monsoon.

However, heavy showers in the past few days have drenched most parts of the Northern belt bringing cheers to the people reeling under hot and humid conditions.
