The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has deployed more than 50,000 staff members to man over 11,000 polling booths set up across Delhi.
All the booths have been barricaded for security and convenience of the voters, apart from setting up the Voter Assistance Booths, MCD officials said. In addition, the civic body has also provided furniture, glass tumblers and earthen pitchers at the booths.
The huge number of staff deputed for election duty includes 22,000 personnel who will work as sector officers, presiding officers, polling officers, voter assistance booth personnel, receptionist for reception/counting centres and other miscellaneous duties.
As many as 22,000 safai karmcharis, 6,000 ministerial staff and 700 inspectors will work to ensure sanitation and upkeep at various booths, an MCD official said.
The MCD has also taken steps to check unauthorised display of political messages and removed 6,296 hoardings/ boards, 27,649 banners/posters and a large number of wall writing during the last two months, the official said.
Municipal Commissioner K.S. Mehra has been regularly monitoring the preparations being made by the zonal deputy commissioners since the elections were declared.
All of them have been directed to be in the field on Thursday throughout the day ensuring all poll arrangements remain in place and that no inconvenience is caused to any poll official or voter.
Further, things like badges, booklets of instructions, labels and stickers for municipal vehicles and officials have been issued, the MCD officials said.
