Her hatred for her husband and intense love for the paramour forced a 33-year-old woman hire a contract killer for Rs 10 lakh to get her husband killed with whom she had a love marriage 14 years ago.
Three days after a businessman was brutally killed at his Moti Nagar residence, the west Delhi police have arrested the deceased’s wife, her paramour and a self-styled contract killer for the crime.
The entire plot was hatched by Aarti (33), wife of the deceased, as her relationship with her husband Virendra Sachdeva had strained and she wanted to get rid of him. She was aided by her paramour, Sant Saran Nehra (32) — a restaurant owner, with whom she was having an extra-marital affair. Nehra had involved his friend Mridul Dixit (30) in the conspiracy after Aarti promised him to pay R10 lakh as contract money.
V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west) said Sachdeva was attacked on his head by Nehra by a self-made sharp hammer before being stabbed brutally and repeatedly by Dixit with an ice breaker.
“The brutality of the accused can be understood from the fact that a total of 35 stab wounds were found on the body of Sachdeva. Everything happened in the presence of Aarti. In fact, she facilitated Nehra and Dixit in executing the plan.
After killing Sachdeva, she herself ransacked the house to present the incident as a case of murder for robbery,” Renganathan said, adding, “We have recovered the hammer and the ice breaker used in the commission of the murder.”
During interrogation, Aarti disclosed that she was fed up with Sachdeva’s continuous rude and violent behaviour. She was upset with him as he used to fight with her frequently over her conduct and character.
“Nehra is Aarti’s childhood friend and they came closer during a tour to Ponta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh in 2009. She developed intimacy with him and started meeting him regularly. She also attended Nehra’s marriage in March this year against the will of her husband. This raised suspicion in Sachdeva’s mind and his behaviour towards her changed. This annoyed her and she hatched the conspiracy,” added Renganathan.
A senior investigating official said the involvement of Aarti was established during the examination of her phone call details which indicated that she was frequently calling and messaging on a particular number that belonged to Nehra.
