Vice-president M Hamid Ansari on Wednesday said the contribution of Muslims to India's Independence could not be marred by the Partition of India and a majority of Muslims did not support the idea.

Citing several experts, Ansari said during the provincial "elections" on Partition during 1945-46, only 11% of Indians had voting rights. Of this only a quarter voted for Partition.

"This provides evidence for who voted for what," he said, after releasing a three-volume Role of Muslims in the Indian Freedom Struggle.
