Anupam Ahuja, wife of actor Shiney Ahuja who is accused of having raped his maid, said she was relieved after her husband got bail.
“Overwhelmed, relieved, very happy, dream come true,.. I don't even know what else to say,” she said.
“I always had faith in the judiciary and this is the first step to victory,” said Anupam after the Bombay High Court granted bail to Shiney on Thursday.
“I have faith in Shiney and know for a fact that he would never do such a thing,” she said. “This is what makes me fight for him and stand up for him.”
Anupam repeatedly stressed that the actor was being framed. “I have conviction in my husband. The truth is that he is innocent. And finally truth will prevail.”
Speaking of the days after the arrest, Anupam said that had it not been for the support of family and friends, it would have been difficult for her to fight for justice.
“It’s friends like Ashoke Pandit (filmmaker and activist) who helped me.”
The couple would now shift to Delhi. “We will move to Delhi where my parents and in-laws stay. There he (Shiney) will continue with his work as usual.”
Pandit, who was with Anupam throughout the hearings, said that he sympathised with genuine rape victims.
“But people who use these allegations frivolously should be punished,” he said.
“Ultimately it’s our faith in Shiney’s innocence that keeps us fighting for him.”
