The Delhi Police on Monday arrested the PSO of sacked Uttarakhand minorities commission chairperson Sukhdev Singh Namdhari on the charges of criminal conspiracy.
He is suspected to be involved in trespassing and firing at Hardeep Singh, despite the fact there was no threat to Namdhari’s life.
Sachin Tyagi, who had joined Uttarakhand Police as a constable in 2005, and was attached with Namdhari as his personal security officer (PSO) since January 2012, was with the police for the past 15 days.
The Hindustan Times had reported on November 30 that Tyagi was allegedly tutored by Namdhari and gave a misleading statement to the police. “His theory of firing in self defence backfired when we found that there was no threat to Namdhari’s life. No bullet marks were found near his seat and he was safe as he had moved to the other side of the Land Cruiser, in which Namdhari had travelled to the Chhatarpur farmhouse with Ponty Chadha,” a senior police officer said.
Police are verifying whether Namdhari had offered money to Tyagi to own up firing at Hardeep. “Both Namdhari and Tyagi cooked up the story of firing in self defence. The south district police believed the story but we continue to treat him as a suspect,” said a crime branch officer.
During investigation, it emerged that Tyagi had come to Delhi along with Namdhari and used his official weapon to fire on Hardeep. “Namdhari himself was in possession of a .30 bore pistol but did not possess a valid licence for bringing the weapon to Delhi,” said SBS Tyagi, DCP (crime).
An Arms Act section will also be invoked against Namdhari as he brought his weapon to Delhi without permission.
