Bar Associations in NCR would observe a one-day strike on January 14 in protest of amendments in section 41 and section 309 of the Code of Criminal Procedure(CrPC) whereby the provision of mandatory arrest of the offences punishable upto 7 years is relaxed.

“Bar Associations of Haryana, UP and Uttrakhand would also participate in the strike. The government is introducing draconian amendments to the CrPC, as a result of which, police, rather than courts, would become discretionary,” said Rajiv Khosla, President, Delhi Bar Associations. “With no mandatory arrest, the fear of committing the crime would no longer plague miscreants, and police could easily alter investigations in collusion with the criminals.”
