It won’t be shocking to witness the newly painted pristine white pillars of the refurbished corridor in the Connaught Place being defaced with paan stains.
To keep a check on such damages, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) is planning illumination for the Inner and Outer circles of Connaught Place.
Therefore, every column will have façade lighting at night. Just like the paan stains on the pillars, the civic body is also worried about the safety of the installed fittings.
To avoid any kind of damage, the NDMC, which has already spent about R450 crore on the redevelopment of the 75-year-old central business district , is now contemplating involving stake holders in the maintenance plan.
“We are working out a partnership with the New Delhi Traders’ Association (NDTA) for maintenance protocol for future.
This involves revenue generation by way of advertisements in public places in Connaught Place,” said a senior NDMC official, on condition of anonymity.
Revenue can be earned through advertisements put up as wrappings at the 31 toilet blocks (including the new constructions), the existing and proposed sub-ways in outer circle and also the independent advertisement panels in the open, the official said.
“It is important to involve the stake holders in the maintenance and also work out a self-sustainable revenue method for the same,” the official said.
