For all those boxing lovers who are yet to get over the pulsating bouts staged in the ring during the Commonwealth Games, the city has got more action in store.
Delhiites will get to see more such boxing matches in the coming days at the Talkatora Stadium — the venue for boxing during the Games.
The stadium, which was renovated by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), will soon be handed over to the civic body by the Organising Committee (OC).
To earn revenue from the stadium, the civic body has decided to rent it out for boxing matches.
However, it was also decided that the stadium will be used to hold socio-cultural events like annual day school function, prize distribution ceremonies and musical shows among others.
The civic body has already been approached by the Boxing Federation of India to host tournaments as well as exhibition matches.
Although the usage charge (rent) is yet to be decided by the civic body, the process will kickstart either by the end of this month or early November, said NDMC sources.
“The Organising Committee is in the process of removing overlays from the venue. Once they are cleared by the end of this month, we will rent it out,” said an official.
In the past too, before the stadium was renovated, the sports venue used to host social gatherings, including music shows.
However, the NDMC has made it clear that the venue will not be given for marriage functions.
