A Nepali actor and his two accomplices have been arrested for allegedly running a human trafficking racket.
The gang, which has cheated about 200 people so far, used to pose as officials of the South African embassy and promise jobs in South Africa and other countries to dupe their targets. The special staff of the Delhi Police, which made the arrests, is now looking for a female agent of the gang, Maya Tawang.
Khushbu Hamal Thakuri alias Raj Hamal, the Nepali actor, Surya Karky, 28, and Kamal Chaudhary, 34, were apprehended on Saturday from a hotel in Nabi Karim area. Five Nepali nationals, who were in the custody of the gang, were also rescued.
Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (central), said: "Fourty-seven Nepali passports, five Indian passports, Rs 8 lakh in cash, police clearance certificates of Nepal and three mobile phones were recovered from their possession."
"The victims were brought to Delhi by Maya Tawang, who assured them of work visa for African countries for Rs 4-5 lakh. They paid Rs 1 lakh to Tawang in Nepal," Srivastava said.
In Delhi, he said, Tawang allegedly introduced the victims to the gang, who posed as South African embassy officials. The two assured work visa for South Africa from Delhi and asked for Rs 2 lakh.
Thakuri told police that he has acted in several Nepali films. The racket has links in Punjab, UP and other Indian states also.
