The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is changing the colour of its old fleet of buses, yet again.
After receiving flak from all quarters for changing the colour of its buses to a ‘dull’ grass green, the DTC has decided to amend its mistake.
To make its buses look ‘brighter’, DTC is adding horizontal bands of white and yellow on old buses, which were earlier painted grass green.
“We received feedback both within the government as well as commuters, that the new colour was looking jaded. So, we decided to change the colour to a bright shade,” Delhi transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
The decision was taken with the aim of giving a uniform look to the entire DTC fleet, as the new , non-AC , low -floor buses being inducted the fleet are also green.
Officials said they also wanted to change DTC’s image before the Commonwealth Games in October and this was part of it.
“Not only was the colour disliked, we found our team was using different shades of green on different buses. The surface was not prepared properly, which gave these buses a jaded look,” a senior DTC official said.
Out of its 2,400-odd buses, DTC had painted 70-80 buses into grass green. These are now being repainted . Officials said about 1500 buses will now be re-painted.
This is the first time ever that the colour of DTC’s buses is being changed. The green interiors of the buses are also being changed into grey and the seats will also be getting a facelift.
