The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has asked Delhi Police to take action against the manager of Prayas, an NGO, for making a five-month pregnant minor to sit outside the child shelter home one whole night.
The CWC, in its order, describe the action as 'abuse'.
"Two girls had alleged that the manager had made them sit on stairs outside their dormitory on the night of April 12. They were not provided any food," a CWC official said. The manager appeared before the CWC on Tuesday and admitted that she had punished the kids by refusing them food and keeping them out of dormitory.
"On the basis of facts gathered by CWC, it is now confirmed that abuse of both the children took place in the NGO," the order says. "There is an urgent need for making the staff aware of what constitutes abuse, neglect and maltreatment. There should be zero tolerance for abuse in any institution, which is run for care and rehabilitation of children," it said.
