A day after investigators said BBA student Paras Bhasin's death could be accidental, sources in the northern railways said no accident took place on the tracks near Pandav Nagar between 4pm and 5pm on September 1.
This revelation has pushed the Delhi police investigation back to square one and deepened the mystery surrounding the tattoo artist's death. Though they have not accepted the claim of the railways, police are once again investigating the case from the murder and suicide angles.
Delhi police have written to the railways, requesting them not to wash the train they have identified in Bhasin's death case.
On Friday, investigators recorded the statement of drivers of the three super fast express trains which, according to them, had passed the tracks between 4pm and 4.30pm on September 1.
"All the drivers claimed that their trains had hit no one on the tracks. We will record the statement of the co-drivers of these trains," said a senior investigating officer.
Meanwhile, the investigators are awaiting the report from handwriting experts to confirm whether the two-page suicide note, which Bhasin's wife Shelly provided to the police, was jointly written by Bhasin and Shelly.
Sharing the contents of Bhasin's post mortem report, a source said all injuries on his body were ante mortem, caused due to blunt objects. "The autopsy report states that he died due to the impact of a train. His viscera report has been preserved," said the source.
The investigators also visited Bhasin's Meenakshi Garden house in west Delhi and collected footage of a CCTV camera installed at his neighbour's house. The footage shows Bhasin heading towards Subhash Nagar Metro station alone at 3.19pm.
"He took the train from Subhash Nagar station and de-boarded at Laxmi Nagar Metro station at 4.11pm. His body was found on the railway tracks at 4.25 pm,” said the senior officer, adding they are trying to ascertain what happened to Bhasin after he got off the Metro.
