No bursting of firecrackers would be allowed in the capital after 10 pm, the Delhi Police said on Thursday.
"Bursting of firecrackers that emit a loud noise are banned from 10 pm to 6 am ahead of Diwali. Firecrackers generating noise level exceeding 125 decibels are also prohibited," a police official said.
The loudness of sound is measured in the unit decibel. According to experts, human ears can comfortably tolerate sound upto 80 decibels.
"Crackers that only emit light can be burnt by Delhiites even after the deadline," the official added.
The Supreme Court has banned crackers from 10 pm to 6 am.
Meanwhile, the police advised people not to wear synthetic or loose clothes when celebrating the festival of lights and to keep their doors and windows closed.
"As many people get their homes painted or white washed before Diwali, we would advise them to remove the inflammable materials and furniture from their rooftops or terraces," the official added.
