No dilution in demand for JPC: NDA

Ahead of the Budget session of Parliament, BJP-led NDA on Tuesday said that it still stood by its demand for a JPC probe into three scams, including 2G spectrum allocation, and accused the UPA government of failing to give any "credible reason" to the opposition to drop its demand.

Ahead of the Budget session of Parliament, BJP-led NDA on Tuesday said that it still stood by its demand for a JPC probe into three scams, including 2G spectrum allocation, and accused the UPA government of failing to give any "credible reason" to the opposition to drop its demand.

"We stand by our demand. It continues...there is no dilution," BJP Parliamentary Party Chairman L K Advani told reporters after a meeting of NDA leaders in New Delhi.

Asked whether the opposition would continue to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament like it did during the Winter session, Advani said that the strategy would be decided on the eve of the Budget session beginning February 21.

He said that it was "unfortunate" that no important business could be transacted during the Winter session because of the logjam between the government and the opposition.

Advani said that NDA leaders decided to continue to press for the demand for a JPC probe in irregularities in Commonwealth Games project, 2G spectrum scam and the Adarsh housing scam ahead of an all-party meeting convened by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on February 8.

"Till now, the government has not given us a single credible reason as to why there should be no JPC," the BJP veteran said.
