There’s bad news for eve-teasers who are having a field day at the India International Trade Fair.
Several teams of Delhi Police, including women police in civil clothes, have been especially deployed at Pragati Maidan in a bid to make the venue safer for women. However, unlike other police stations in the Capital, no women help desk has been set up at the temporary Pragati Maidan police station.
“Women hesitate while approaching male policemen. The number of women visiting the trade fair is very high, the organisers should have set up a separate anti eve-teasing helpline operated by women,” said Mansi Khorana, a visitor.
“We have no anti eve-teasing helpline number but there¡¦s a central control room number and a police station where women can register their complaints,” said PC Sharma, General Manager, Publicity, ITPO.
“There are women cops inside the venue but there¡¦s no women help desk at the Pragati Maidan police station,” said Seju P Kuruvilla, DCP, Trade Fair.
The anti eve-teasing squads have caught several eve-teasers red handed since the day fair was thrown open to general public. “The constant vigilance has brought the number of eve-teasing down comparing to previous years,” a senior officer said.
“The teams are spread across the venue to curb the cases of eve-teasing. As a part of our no-tolerance drive against eve-teasing, teams, including women police are strategically located outside foreign stalls to prevent foreign female exhibitors from eve-teasing,” a police officer said.
