It was a nightmarish discovery for 62-year-old Amarnath Sachdeva.
On Friday night, the grandfather found his son and his family unconscious at their rented flat in New Malviya Nagar. Later, Pramod Sachdeva (36) and his two young children — the son just seven months old — were declared brought dead at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, said police. Police said it Pramod and his wife had a mutual suicide pact and poisoned the children.
Pramod’s wife Sonali (34) — — is battling for life at the hospital. Pramod was a pump driver with Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
“I tried calling my son many times that night but he was not picking up. So I went to his flat. When no one opened the door I asked his neighbours who told me to call the police,” said Amarnath.
Police said that Pramod, his son Jatin and his daughter Jia (two-and-a-half years old) were all declared brought dead to the hospital.
“I do not know why my son killed himself and his two children,” said Amarnath. The police discovered a suicide note from the spot in which the family had written that no one is responsible for their action.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal said, “In the suicide note it was also mentioned that they are taking with them their children because they felt that their children would not be able survive without them.”
The police said that the exact reason behind the suicide is not known, as Sonali is still critical and unfit to give any statement.
According to police, Pramod and Sonali had a love marriage four years back. They then started living separately after they allegedly had a dispute with the family.
The police said that an SDM-level enquiry is being conducted into the matter.
