Not even a single teacher of a municipal corporation school was given training in the last one year, the education committee has revealed.
This has once again put a question mark on the quality of education being imparted at these schools.
Of the 20,000 municipal corporation teachers, only 350 were trained in 2010-2011.
It is mandatory to give all teachers of municipal corporation schools a minimum of 12 days of training per year so they get a chance to update their knowledge and skills.
A tour of the training centre at Shakti Nagar on Monday, however, showed that there was not enough staff or equipment for training.
Of the 10 posts, only one, that of an inspector, has been filled at the academy that is expected to train thousands of teachers.
After the trifurcation, the training centre has come under the North Corporation, which will now have to train its 9,000 teachers.
"Just having an academic degree is not enough to become a teacher. They need to be trained to make children understand the various subjects. It is shocking that there has been no training in the past one year," said Rekha Gupta, chairperson, education committee, North Corporation, who took the tour.
Gupta added that they would seek help from NGOs to impart the training since their own machinery was not viable.
