Five months after it stopped functioning, a traffic signal at an extremely busy intersection bordering Delhi and Noida is back to work. On January 15, HT had reported about the traffic snarls because of the non-functioning light and the subsequent plight of local residents.

When contacted by HT then, Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi range) Suvashish Chaudhary had said "internal procedural delays" responsible for the non-repair would be immediately taken care of.

According to local resident Animesh Sinha, who works in a steel-manufacturing company, "the repair work had begun in the third week of this month."

Sinha added, "Now that the traffic signal is working, there is no longer any traffic chaos at the intersection. Pedestrians, including old and children, no longer wait endlessly at the zebra crossing to cross the road."

Businessman Naveen Bhatia, who stays at AIIMS apartments, said that local residents "had even petitioned the Chief Minister months ago to get the traffic signal repaired, but that did not work."

A traffic police survey states that during the morning peak hours, around 4,643 vehicles pass this crossing while in the evening, the figure stands at 5,017.

The signal regulates vehicular traffic that merges with the Noida link road from three other directions -- Vasundhara Enclave, Mayur Kunj Residential Enclave and Shani Temple area.
